Join local hacktivist Jerry Whiting as he presents "Surf Quietly", a suite of tools that lets you surf online securely while protecting your privacy. Modeled after the CryptoParty [ cryptoparty.org/wiki/CryptoParty ] held around the world, Jerry's presentation includes free handouts like Tor on a flash drive, CDs that boot you securely into Linux, and flash drives protected by TruCrypt. One or more free Tor servers will be given away to interested attendees. The "$3 Secret Sharing Hack" will be demonstrated (with the money given away).

"Surf Quietly" allows you to establish and maintain some measure of control over who tracks and monitors your activity online. The threats are real and growing more ominous by the day. If you don't protect yourself, no one else will. And if you're counting on your government, any government, to help you you're in for a big, fat surprise.

Come share what you know and take home some new playtoys. This is gonna be fun.

Jerry Whiting has a long history of playing with cryptography and encryption, and volunteers as a tech consultant for the Tibetan diaspora, the elders of the Black Panther Party, the #Occupy movement, and other social & political organizations worldwide. He teaches and lectures through assorted venues including Seattle Mini Maker Faire, ToorCamp, UW Experimental College, and #OccupySeattle IT. By day he's the Pres/CEO of Azalea Software, Inc., the last Aldus spin-off still standing [ www.azalea.com/about/ ], by night he's the character behind JetCityOrange [ www.JetCityOrange.com/faq/ ].
