"Street" Calendar for 2013

I love infrastructure and fiber beneath the street definitely counts. This shot was taken a couple blocks down the street. Of course the QR barcode is the Easter Egg in this free downloadable calendar for 2013.

A little street art (which I love) right here in West Seattle (homeSweetHome). Sounds like the fixin's of another of my famous free calendars. And of course this one sports a QR barcode surprise!

Stuffing & Dressing: a pictorial guide

Many years ago, a friend called on Thanksgiving Eve and asked for a quick lesson in how to cook a turkey, stuffing and all. Being Italian, they'd always eaten lasagne et al. but never a "traditional" meal. I prepared a quick stuffing tutorial for her. Looks funny after all these years.

Surf Quietly

I did a talk on using the internet safely and securely using tools like Tor, TrueCrypt, AES encryption, HTTPS Everywhere & SSL Observatory, etc. It was held at Ada Books in Seattle and had a standing room crowd! No, it wasn't videotaped but my slides and the links are online.

"Surf Quietly: shhhh… i’m online" talk in Seattle

Saturday November 10, 2012 6:00-7:30 pm

Ada Technical Books, 713 Broadway East, Seattle WA 98102

http://blog.seattletechnicalbooks.com/?p=607

Join local hacktivist Jerry Whiting as he presents "Surf Quietly", a suite of tools that lets you surf online securely while protecting your privacy. Modeled after the CryptoParty [ cryptoparty.org/wiki/CryptoParty ] held around the world, Jerry's presentation includes free handouts like Tor on a flash drive, CDs that boot you securely into Linux, and flash drives protected by TruCrypt. One or more free Tor servers will be given away to interested attendees. The "$3 Secret Sharing Hack" will be demonstrated (with the money given away).

"Surf Quietly" allows you to establish and maintain some measure of control over who tracks and monitors your activity online. The threats are real and growing more ominous by the day. If you don't protect yourself, no one else will. And if you're counting on your government, any government, to help you you're in for a big, fat surprise.

Come share what you know and take home some new playtoys. This is gonna be fun.

Jerry Whiting has a long history of playing with cryptography and encryption, and volunteers as a tech consultant for the Tibetan diaspora, the elders of the Black Panther Party, the #Occupy movement, and other social & political organizations worldwide. He teaches and lectures through assorted venues including Seattle Mini Maker Faire, ToorCamp, UW Experimental College, and #OccupySeattle IT. By day he's the Pres/CEO of Azalea Software, Inc., the last Aldus spin-off still standing [ www.azalea.com/about/ ], by night he's the character behind JetCityOrange [ www.JetCityOrange.com/faq/ ].

Guy Fawkes Jack'O'Lantern

Ready for Halloween? Not until you make your very own Guy Fawkes jack'o'lantern.

I took a break from work this afternoon and put together an #Anonymous pumpkin template and carved my very own OccupyHalloween jack-o-lantern.
